Teachers take energy class, tour Wausau Hydro

WAUSAU (WAOW) -- This summer, some teachers are reversing their roles and becoming students.

As part of a graduate-level course on renewable energy, 11 middle and high school teachers toured the Wausau Hydro dam Thursday morning.

The class is designed to give teachers a better understanding of energy that they can use in their classrooms next fall.

Instructors say it's important that the next generation grows up aware of how energy is produced.

"It helps them make choices whether it's energy conservation, renewable energy, learn a little bit about the Public Service Commission, learn a little bit about their utilities."

Wisconsin Public Service officials, who conducted the tour, say more than 5,000 Wisconsin teachers have gone through the energy education program since it started in 1995.
