Body found in debris of destroyed Colorado home

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The House has voted for new curbs on government spying on Americans a year after the revelations about the National Security Agency surveillance.

In a surprise vote late Thursday, the GOP-led House backed an amendment to a defense spending bill that would bar warrantless collection of personal online information. It also would prohibit access for the NSA and CIA into commercial tech products.

A coalition of libertarian Republicans and liberal Democrats joined forces on the measure that they said had been stripped from a major bill on bulk collection earlier this year. Leaders of the Intelligence and Judiciary committees had objected to the measure.

The vote was 293-123.

The vote came a year after leaker Edward Snowden's disclosures about NSA activities.
