Dogs enjoy the water in Wausau at very own pool party

WAUSAU (WAOW) -- Dogs in Wausau splashed around and enjoyed some water games in Marathon Park Sunday night.

It was the first Dog Gone Pool Party of the summer.

The parties raise money for people who need financial help to pay for swim lessons.

Organizers say at least 75 people showed up with their pooches to play.

"The idea is to go somewhere where no one has gone before and the Dog Gone Splash Pad is very attractive," said Karyn Powers, Marathon County's recreation superintendent. "It's off-leash, it's well-fenced, the water is treated and we do a serious disinfection and clean after every party so we're ready to open up to the public the next day."

This is the ninth year of Dog Gone Pool Parties.

Organizers say last year they raised more than $3500 throughout the summer for families in need.
