Discussion about Weston bus service

The future of a metro bus route in Weston is again being discussed. The village's public health and safety committee will look at possible changes in the route.
The group called Northcentral Congregation Organized to Make an Impact, N.A.O.M.I. for short, advocating for bus service in the city is suggesting that a looped route be created. The group says the idea would help residents who need transportation in the south metro area. They presented signed petitions to the village earlier this month, and now the public safety committee will explore the idea at a meeting.

The pro-busing group believes a looped route will help businesses and increase ridership.

"We have studied it quite a bit," said Mark Timken, a member of the N.A.O.M.I. transportation committee. "We do believe there's a route that can double the geographical area for no additional miles. "

Bus service in Weston has been controversial. A route was scrapped for a time and then restored in a compromise. Fred Schuster, the public safety chair, said people signed a referendum to have the bus service available, but then many turned against it. He said the committee will look into costs and finances and might make a recommendation at the meeting.
