PORTAGE COUNTY (WAOW)- Portage County is hosting the 2014 Wisconsin Farm Technology Days.

Three and a half years of planning has gone into the weekend event that opens August 12th.

"We are looking forward to folks coming in from all over the midwest," said the Executive Director of the Stevens Point Area Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Farm Technology Days features agricultural education, new gadgets to help farmers, including drones, hundreds of vendors and a 60-acre tent city.

Portage County is rich with farm land, having more than 1,000 farms.

This year Feltz Family Farms and Blue Top Farms near Stevens Point will co-host the show.

"It's a once and a lifetime event and when we are old it's something we can look back on," said farm owner Ken Feltz. "You don't have too many opportunities to do something like this. "

Organizers are putting the final touches on the large event. They are expecting around 80,000 people to attend.

With so many people coming to the area, organizers are already seeing a large economic impact.

"Certainly we have great access being that the location site is just off of Highway 10 and I-39. We have folks coming in up to two weeks in advance to put up their displays and their exhibits and our hotels are almost full," said Brish.

Along with new technology, organizers are looking forward to featuring food from central Wisconsin. There will be baked potatoes, pork tenderloin sandwiches and homemade ice creme on the menu.

The farm extravaganza runs through August 14th.

Farm Technology Days is the largest agricultural show in Wisconsin and one of the largest in the nation.

Next year's show is in Dane County.
