UPDATE: Wausau driver killed in car rollover

Posted:

DANCY (WAOW) - The 56-year-old man killed when his car lost control, went into a ditch, rolled and hit a stump, causing it to "spin and roll drastically," was from Wausau, the Portage County Sheriff's Department said Friday.

Stephen A. Wright died in the crash that happened about 11:30 a.m. Thursday on state Highway 34 just south of the Marathon County line near Dancy, Lt. Michael Morgan said.

The southbound car drifted onto the right shoulder before some steering corrections caused it to go out of control, investigators said.

What caused the car to gradually drift to the right shoulder was unknown but lack of attention might have been a factor, Morgan said.

"He was on his way from Wausau to Wisconsin Rapids for a work appointment, a normal way of travel for him," the lieutenant said.
