Rainy forecast raises flooding concerns

WAUSAU (WAOW)--Marathon County Highway Department officials say the weekend forecast calling for more rain has them concerned about  flooding.

A portion of state Highway 97 south of Athens had to be closed for about an hour Friday.

"We had about three inches of rain in a 45-minute period and that resulted in rain filling the culverts and spilling over the road," Highway Commissioner Jim Griesbach said.

Road crews used ar special response vehicle to transport county signs warning motorists about the danger.

"Please, if you see these signs do not drive around them. If there is high water, you do not know what's there. The road may not be there," said Griesbach.
With the forecast calling for more rain, Griesbach asks motorists to be vigilant in watching out for potential road problems.
