STEVENS POINT (WAOW) -- Hometown hockey star Joe Pavelski was in Stevens Point this afternoon for another sport: golf.

He hosted a charity golf tournament for the sixth time.

"It's a great cause my son is involved in ice hawks and what the Pavelski family has done fro this community is amazing," said participant Vince Fonti.

All of the money raised goes toward something near and dear to Pavelski's heart, youth hockey.

"It's nice to see how important it is for the kids to play, there's so many good people involved with hockey here and the program. It's a great cause, " said Pavelski.

Pavelski plays center for the San Jose Sharks and was on the US Olympic team.

Friday's golf scramble at the Stevens Point Country Club featured 31 teams.

Pavelski's foursome was a family affair, including his father and two brothers.

He said he played some practice rounds to get ready for the tournament.

"It's just fun to play, and to have a golf tournament outside of the season is just fun," said Pavelski.

Even though he had some fun on the course today, hockey continues to be number one on his mind.

The Sharks lost in the first round of the playoffs to the eventual champion Los Angeles Kings.

"The disappointing end to the season, it's tough it's one of the hardest ones we've had to deal with. There is still those days when you wake up or somebody says something it kind of clicks back in," said Pavelski

While it's nice to be back home Pavelski says he really enjoys reconnecting with old friends.

"You don't get to see everybody as much as you'd like and anytime you can get back to town it makes it special," he said.

Last year Pavelski's golf tournament raised about 40,000 dollars for the Stevens Point Area Youth Hockey Association.
