Area students build volcanoes

Posted:
WAUSAU (WAOW) - Some central Wisconsin students got a hands on learning experience by building volcanoes.

Students from kindergarten to 5th grade were invited to the Marathon County Public Library to craft their own volcano to find out why it explodes and how lava flows. Library leaders say it's an interactive way to learn and a fun time as well.

"Kids get to do the hands on work themselves," said library specialist Taylor Weinfurter. "They actually learn a lot more when they get to be the leaders and do the hands on things instead of me just telling them 'volcanoes work like this,' instead they build their own."

The free event was part of the library's summer reading program.
