RHINELANDER (WAOW) – Skeletal remains found in a wooded area near Rhinelander are those of a 54-year-old man who had avoided parole officials for more than a year, the Oneida County Sheriff's Department said Wednesday.
No foul play is suspected in the death of Steven J. Boron of Oneida County, Chief Deputy Dan Hess said.
On Monday, a citizen discovered the remains near Lake Julia in the Town of Pelican about five miles south of Rhinelander.
“Boron had been reported as an absconder from probation/parole in May of 2013,” Hess said in a statement.
Boron had been convicted of arson and had been released from prison before he failed to report to a parole agent, Hess said.
Results from toxicology tests should answer some questions about a cause of death, he said.
Boron's remains were found in a remote area and he may have been living out of a vehicle, Hess said.
