Hundreds of jobs could be coming to Wisconsin Rapids

WIS. RAPIDS (WAOW)-- Aspirus Doctors Clinic in Wisconsin Rapids is planning a big expansion.

According to Aspirus, the $30 million expansion would add up to 275 jobs at the Clinic.

Aspirus Doctors Clinic offers a number of medical services, including cardiac tests and many general surgeries.

Clinic leaders say rising patient demands require more doctors and more space.

The project will add up to 110,000 square feet to the Clinic, allowing it to handle more patients.

Wisconsin Rapids Mayor, Zach Vruwink, says he is excited for what Aspirus' growth could mean for the community.

"There is no question that the level of individuals that they are looking to hire will have some sort of professional education, so of course from a payroll perspective we are very excited about the fact that these individuals will be buying houses in the city and spending money here too," said Vruwink.

The expansion project needs various approvals from the city.

According to the mayor, the plans are most likely to be presented to the city council in August.

A spokesman for Aspirus declined an on-camera interview.

If everything goes smoothly Aspirus hopes to break ground by spring 2015 and open its new facility by the end of 2016.
