Man arrested for overnight hit & run

WAUSAU (WAOW) -- A man was arrested early Friday morning for a hit and run in Wausau.

According to a lieutenant with the Marathon County Sheriff's Department, they received reports around 1:49 a.m. that two vehicles had collided on Scott Street. One of the vehicles struck a traffic pole and fire hydrant. The driver of the other car, a 2006 Dodge Charger, fled. It's unknown if the driver in the other vehicle was hurt.

About a half hour later, investigators say they received a call that a vehicle, matching the description, was spotted speeding down Rib Mountain Drive. When officers found the vehicle, they say they saw front end damage and pulled the driver over. The suspect, a 24-year-old man, was arrested. Investigators say they were able to match pieces found at the scene to the man's car. His name has not been released. It's unclear if any charges will be filed.

The crash remains under investigation.
