Attorney for 12-year-old stabbing suspects opposes psych exam

Posted: Updated:

MILWAUKEE (WKOW)—The attorney for one of the two 12-year-old girls accused of stabbing a classmate is arguing she should not have to submit to a psychiatric exam.

The attorney, Anthony Cotton, made the argument in a motion Thursday. He says the exam would violate her right to remain silent.

During a hearing Wednesday, prosecutors asked that the girl be given a mental exam to determine whether she had any mental defect at the time of the crime. The judge granted the hearing over Cotton's objection.

The girl, along with another girl, is accused of nearly stabbing a classmate to death in May.
