More charges filed against Wausau teacher

WAUSAU (WAOW) -- A Newman Catholic High School religion teacher and soccer coach faces more charges.

Michael Switalski was back in Marathon County Circuit Court on Monday where he pleaded not guilty to 32 counts against him.

Switalski, 50, was charged in March with eight counts of possession of child pornography.

Prosecutors say the teacher, who was placed on administrative leave, had 96 photos and 12 videos showing naked boys.

Deputy District Attorney Theresa Wetzsteon said further investigation found additional items on Switalski's electronic devices that make this case more serious. Wetzsteon says that's why more charges were added.

"The legislature has deemed that possession of child pornography is very serious. Given the status of the defendant in the community, his position within a school, obviously that's very concerning and I know it's very difficult, it's very difficult for the public who looked up to him," said Wetzsteon.'

Switalski's defense attorney declined to comment.

Police arrested Switalski after tracing videos from a Canadian company that were delivered to his home by mail, the criminal complaint said.
