Ex-sheriff's wife released from prison early

WAUSAU (WAOW) – A one-time state probation agent and wife of a former Marathon County sheriff has been released from prison about seven months early, according to the state Department of Corrections.

Last August, Kim Hoenisch, now 42, was sentenced to 18 months in prison and six years probation after she was convicted of three felonies - burglary, misconduct in office and possession of narcotic drugs - and two misdemeanors.

Hoenisch was fired from her job after a state investigation concluded she had stolen prescription drugs, including Vicodin and oxycodone, from one of her clients.

Hoenisch pleaded no contest to the charges that were filed in December 2012.

According to the criminal complaint, Hoenisch burglarized the home of a probationer in search of pain medicine. Her attorney has said she battled addiction since the 1990s due to pain from multiple knee surgeries.

Hoenisch's then-57-year-old husband announced his retirement as Marathon County sheriff in February 2013 and officially stepped down about a month later. Hoenisch, who was under criticism for his work habits, won his first election in 2000, and he was re-elected three times.

According to the state Department of Corrections web site, Hoenisch is currently under “active community supervision” of an agent in Wisconsin Rapids after being released from prison last week.

A spokesman for the Department of Corrections in Madison and a parole agent in Marshfield did not immediately return telephone messages Tuesday to explain why Hoenisch qualified to be released from prison early.
