Woodchucks team chemistry could propel team to postseason

The Northwoods League is unique in the fact that it divides its season into two halves. The division winner in each half gets a postseason nod, and recently, the second half has been kind to the Wisconsin Woodchucks.

Over the last three years, the Chucks have a combined 47 wins in the second half, which ranks third among South Division teams.

That three year stretch dates back to the 2012 season, when the 'Chucks went on a tear in the second half, going 26-9 and claiming a spot in the postseason.

Manager Jameel Ziadeh was on the staff in 2012, and he told Newsline 9 he sees quite a few similarities between that team and this year's team.

"The biggest similarity between these two teams is just the energy level every day at the park," Ziadeh said with a smile. "The guys really enjoy coming out, and they play hard.

"A lot of that is just because of the energy, camaraderie, and the tightness of the team," he continued. "(The 2012 team) had great chemistry and this team has great chemistry."

The Woodchucks are 5-4 in the second half, and by all accounts, that team chemistry is one of their best assets.

"When we pitch or hit well we both do it at the same time," infielder turned outfielder Nate Mondou said. "So once we start having the pitchers picking up the hitters and the hitters picking up the pitchers, we'll really get on a roll here and hopefully win the second half."
