Woodchucks and Rafters both use HR's to pick up wins


The Wisconsin Woodchucks belted three home runs Thursday night to defeat the Kensoha Kingfish, 7-4.

Paul DeJong gave the Chucks a 2-1 lead in the first inning with his Northwoods League leading 13th home run of the season.

In the bottom of the third inning, both Brendon Hayden and Jake Scudder hit solo home runs to give the Woodchucks a 4-2 lead.

Hayden and DeJong had RBI singles in the top of the fourth inning extending the Woodchucks’ lead 6-2.

Hayden also doubled in the Woodchucks' seventh run in the bottom of the sixth. He finished the night going 3-4 with a home run, double, and single while driving in three runs.

The Woodchucks wrap up their four-game home stand on Friday night against the Kingfish, with the first pitch set for 7:05.


The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters also used the long ball to gain a 3-1 home stand ending victory over the Madison Mallards.

Keelin Rasch connected on a three RBI home run in the bottom of the fourth inning to give the Rafters a 3-0 lead.

Madison picked up it's only run of the game in the top of the eighth inning.

The Rafters will hit the road for seven straight games, starting with a series in Madison. First pitch on Friday night at Warner Park is slated for 7:05.
