Rafters hang on for win, Woodchucks struggle offensively and lose

The Wisconsin Woodchucks allowed the Kenosha Kingfish to score five runs in the first two innings and could only manage five hits in a 7-2 loss at Athletic Park Friday night.

Chucks pitcher Andy Ravel got roughed up in his start on the mound, going only four innings, allowing six runs on seven hits.

Brendon Hayden recorded the only Woodchucks RBI with a single to score Jack Klages in the bottom of the fifth inning. The other Chucks run came on a Kingfish error in the seventh inning.

The Woodchucks will now take their first extended road trip as they travel to Battle Creek on Saturday and Sunday, followed by a series in Kalamazoo on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Wisconsin Rapids Rafters held on for a 6-5 victory over the Mallards Friday night in Madison.

Five Rafters recorded an RBI in the win with Michael Jurgella and Clark Eagan both scoring twice.

Wisconsin Rapids jumped out to a 5-1 lead after two innings and despite going scoreless in the final five innings, the Rafters were able to squeak out a road victory.

The Rafters have two more games in Madison over the weekend and then will get Monday off before heading to Lakeshore and Kenosha for a couple two-game series.
