Wausau soldier surprises family at Wisconsin Woodchucks game

WAUSAU (WAOW) - A central Wisconsin family thought they were just going to a baseball game Friday night. Instead, they had the surprise of a lifetime.

Crystal Rayborn of Wausau has been stationed in Japan for almost two years.

"The navy gave me exactly what I was looking for," said Rayborn.

The third class petty officer hasn't been home since she's gone overseas, until now.

"I’m really nervous going it's real I think,” said Rayborn. “Once I hug my family it'll be real again."

She'll finally be reunited with her loved ones at a Wisconsin Woodchucks game.

"Pretty nervous, but excited,” said Rayborn. “I want to see my family."

Rayborn has been waiting for this moment for a long time.

"I feel great though I’m home,” said Rayborn. “Everybody now knows I’m just, I’m just so happy to be home."

A surprise homecoming for her cousin Colin, who works in concessions for the Woodchucks.

"I was kind of speechless at first because I didn't think she was going to come home,” said Colin Smith, Rayborn's cousin.

It was also a surprise for her grandparents, who have only heard her voice since she left.

"Oh what a shock, we had no idea she was coming home,” said Sharon Rayborn, Crystal's grandmother. “It's the best most wonderful surprise of the whole year."

A surprise that brought their hero home.

Rayborn will be home in Wausau for one month. She will then head back to Japan to continue her service.
