Wausau PD looking for driver in hit-and-run

WAUSAU (WAOW) – Wausau Police are searching for a man who they say hit a woman Monday morning with his car and then drove off. It happened at North Fifth Street and Dekalb Street off East Bridge Street.

"The male party struck the female party with a vehicle and then fled the scene," said Lt. Nathan Pekarske of the Wausau Police Department.

Wausau police say a woman walking by Franklin Elementary School was hit by a car. She was taken to the hospital with what authorities believe are minor injuries.

"The vehicle was described as a creme colored Ford Crown Victoria with no license plates," said Pekarske.

The lieutenant says the woman, whose name has not been released, knew the driver.

"It appears the male and female in the situation knew each other,” said Pekarske. “It was possibly an argument in some relationship they had."

Police say this isn't the first time the man has been in the area.

"The potential suspect we are looking for in the incident was involved in another incident in that general vicinity approximately a month ago," said Pekarske.

Last month, police received a call for what appeared to be gun shots from a fight in the area. They later confirmed no guns were used.

"The male party operating the vehicle was not located at the scene and we are attempting to locate him right now," said Pekarske.

The driver's name is not being released at this time.

If you have any information about what happened, the lieutenant says to call Wausau Police at 715-261-7800.
