WAUSAU (WAOW) – The suspect in a Wausau hit-and-run that sent a 17-year-old girl to the hospital has been arrested and is being held on a probation hold, Wausau Police Lt. Mike Juedes told Newsline 9.
Juedes says a 27-year-old man was taken into custody Monday night, 12 hours after the incident in the same area.
Officials say the suspect, whose name is not being released, hit the girl with his car on the 1300 block of North 5th Street early Monday morning. They say the driver was likely driving slowly.
They say the girl, who knew the suspect, tried to stop the male driver from leaving and stepped out in front of the car.
Juedes says the driver then hit the girl, who rolled up onto the hood and fell onto the road. Officials say the driver then left the scene.
Officers say the girl scrapped her knee and complained of some head pain. She was treated at an area hospital and released the same day, police say.
Officials wouldn't elaborate on the relationship between the two.
The investigation is ongoing and officials say they don't know what charges will be recommended at this time.
Police told Newsline 9 Monday that the suspect was involved in another incident in the same area a month ago. Officers received a call for what appeared to be gun shots from a fight near Franklin School. They later confirmed no guns were used.
