Wausau man sues for losing job over legal gun

Posted:
WAUSAU, Wis. (AP) -- A Wausau man has sued his former employer for firing him allegedly over having a gun in his car.

Ethan Shepherd contends window and door maker Kolbe & Kolbe Millwork violated Wisconsin's concealed carry law when it fired him.

Shepherd's lawsuit was filed in Marathon County. President Nik Clark of Wisconsin Carry Inc. tells the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel his group is paying the upfront costs of the suit.

The lawsuit alleges that in March, the Wausau-based company asked Shepherd if he had a gun in his car and if he had shown it to anyone at work. He said he had -- inside his car, after work. Shepherd was then fired.

The suit seeks Shepherd's reinstatement with back pay.

A company representative did not return a phone message Wednesday.
