MADISON (WKOW) -- Local emergency response teams and other experts spent Saturday promoting safety at Dane County Fair.
Safety Day is way to give families a first-hand look at what local agencies do every day. Madison fire crews, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the 911 Center, SwimWest and the town of Madison teamed up to share their knowledge about safety in all aspects of life.
Families got to try on firefighter gear and sit in the drivers seat of the fire trucks and the town of Madison Fire Department showed of its Jaws of Life equipment.
"The new equipment we used [Saturday] was just purchased just a couple weeks ago," says Chief Dave Bloom. "Car manufacturers now have use very high tense steel that they use in their vehicles that the old Jaws of Life wouldn't cut."
Workers at the 911 Center also taught people CPR and SwimWest shared some safety tips while in the water.
