Madison apartment building evacuated after chemicals found

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -- An entire apartment building was evacuated after what was likely a suicide attempt that involved chemicals.

The Madison Fire Department says around 8:45 Sunday night crews were called to an apartment building in the 400 block of West Doty Street for an attempted suicide. One person was transported to Meriter Hospital.

Authorities found chemicals inside that apartment that caused them to evacuate the 8-unit building. Police also cordoned off the entire 400-block into early Monday morning while the fire department's hazardous materials unit dealt with the scene. It was clear by about 2:00 a.m.
