Man charged with sexually assaulting Wausau girl will go to trial
MARATHON COUNTY (WAOW) -- The man accused of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old rural Wausau girl will head to trial.
Praveen Kharb, 38, appeared in Marathon County Court Tuesday. Police say Kharb was arrested in Washington state in the sexual assault of a 12-year-old girl at her home in rural Wausau.
He remains in jail on a $750,000 cash bond.
Kharb was charged May 8 with two felonies - first-degree sexual assault of a child and using a computer to facilitate a child sex crime. He was arrested May 9 in Bellevue, Wash. Court records list his address as San Diego.
Kharb met the girl online, through a messaging system called KIK, and traveled to her home March 22, the criminal complaint said.
The girl told investigators that "at first when he said he wanted to come visit, she thought they were just going to 'hang out' and talk and visit, but it led to something else," the complaint said.
The girl's parents were not home at the time and Kharb sexually assaulted the girl and then left her house, the complaint said.
Kharb left condoms behind, which were found by her parents, launching the investigation that included examining the girl's iPad, the complaint said.
