Training Camp: Packers put pads on for first time

Day three of Packers training camp was the first padded practice of the preseason so the intensity level was higher than the previous two days and those positions battles are starting to heat up.

"It's a open competition. It's been that way, me, Garth, Corey," said center JC Tretter. "We're all just fighting over the same spot. We know what's going on and what we need to do. It's about going out there and earning the position."

"You know, I'm here to work hard and earn a spot on this team," said first round draft pick Ha Ha Clinton-Dix. "It doesn't matter if it's on special teams, starting safety, free safety, strong safety, whatever it is. You know, we're just competing. We know at the end of the day it's a job and the best man will win."

Micah Hyde, who played cornerback last year, has now almost fully transitioned into a safety. Mike McCarthy says Hyde has the ability to be effective at nearly any position.

"Micah Hyde is a football player and I think you can line him up anywhere," raved McCarthy. "He's had the offseason to learn the position and to get the communication down, which is so important in our system. He's a playmaker."
