Lake Wausau clean up efforts

Wausau organization is working to clean up Lake Wausau.

The Lake Wausau Association is using equipment to remove weeds from the water.

Group leaders say this is part of a three-year study to improve water conditions.

The harvester collects about 3,000 to 4,000 pounds of algae and weeds per hour.

"It improves navigational channels for boaters, aesthetically it's going to help us," said Rick Parkin, Lake Wausau Association Vice President. "We're creating edges for fish habitat, so all in all, it's really a benefit to the lake,"

Group leaders say they'll be working on the weeds for the next two weeks.

They say in that time, it will clear weeds from 80 acres of water.
