Northwoods Leaguue: Busy day for Chucks and Rafters

Doubleheaders are nothing new to baseball, but the Northwoods League added a twist on Wednesday.

The league scheduled day-night doubleheaders, with each team serving as the home squad for one game, and the road squad for the other.

In the afternoon, the Woodchucks hosted the Green Bay Bullfrogs while the Rafters hosted the Eau Claire Express. For the nightcap, the Woodchucks traveled to Green Bay, and the Rafters hit the road for Eau Claire.

In game one in Wausau, the Bullfrogs jumped out over the Woodchucks early, en route to a 10-1 victory. Green Bay got seven shutout innings on the mound from UW-Stevens Point Pointer Luke Watson.

In game two, the Bullfrogs came from behind to top the Woodchucks 5-4. Wisconsin is now 17-11 in the second half, and are now a game back of Kenosha for the South Division's second playoff spot.

The Rafters got five runs in the ninth inning of their matinee against the Express, propelling them to a thrilling 8-7 comeback win.

The two teams then went to Eau Claire, where the Express defeated the Rafters 10-3 as part of a make-up for a game that had been postponed by rain.
