Rain puts damper on fair-goers at Wisconsin Valley Fair in Wausau
All of the rain this week is putting a bit of a damper on the fun at the Wisconsin Valley Fair in Wausau.
"We were just about to go on the ferris wheel when it started pouring out,” said Justin Case of Antigo.
"We thought it would be fun and we thought the rain would hold up until we were done,” said Annabeth Bartelt of Wausau.
Some people stayed under vendors' carts at the fair waiting for the rain to pass. Others stuck to waiting inside.
"We just ate and now I’m going to do the exhibition building and hopefully it'll stop raining," said Lynn Heinz of Kronenwetter.
This is all too familiar for the fair this week. Since the fair opened on Tuesday, it has rained every day.
But organizers say it's not affecting attendance.
“The weather in this area you know everybody in this area kind of holds up for a while, and it might rain it might not,” said Maria Budnik, the fair administrator. “So everybody adapts with the rain here at the fairgrounds."
Fair-goers say all they want is to have some summertime fun that doesn't include an umbrella.
"I’m really wishing the rain would stop so we can go on the ferris wheel and some other rides," said Case.
"We wasted a bunch of money and we hope it lets up soon," said Bartelt.
There is still a chance of rain for the rest of the weekend. Many people look forward to this fair ever year, and they are hoping for some nice weather before the fair ends on Sunday.
