Dozens dive into pie for Wisconsin Valley Fair contest
WAUSAU (WAOW) -
It's messy, delicious and a fair favorite.
Dozens of eager eaters took on a pie eating contest at the Wisconsin Valley Fair Friday.
Three age groups competed. Contestants dove into French silk, lemon meringue and coconut pies donated by County Market.
Pie-eaters could not use forks or even their hands.
Organizers say its a great way to get the community involved.
"I think it makes the fair seem a lot smaller when you have these little contests where you put a name to some of these kids and they get involved," said assistant event coordinator Kaitlyn Matthiae. "They might have a project here, but they can also get out and come out here and see what's going on. It also brings our vendors in because some of them donated some products. So it just nicely ties it all together."
"My favorite part of the pie eating contest was them having many different flavors this year. They had a lot of good choices. And the cream was good!"
Newsline 9's Brandon Kinnard took part in the fun. He competed in the 15-25 age group. Lemon meringue was his pie of choice. He snagged second place.
