WAUSAU (WAOW) -

Paul DeJong hit a go-ahead three-run home run in the bottom of the 4th inning to power the Wisconsin Woodchucks past the Kenosha Kingfish 4-2 Saturday evening at Athletic Park.

The win comes at a perfect time as the Woodchucks and Kingfish are in a battle for the final playoff spot in the Northwoods League's South Division.

With the 'Chucks trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the 4th, Paul DeJong blasted a three-run home run that gave Wisconsin a 3-1 lead. DeJong's 17th home run of the season came on his 21st birthday.

The Kingfish would plate another run in the 5th inning to close the gap to just one run. But Blair Beck scored Taylor Kohlwey with an RBI double in the bottom of the 8th to give the 'Chucks a 4-2 lead.

The two-run lead would prove to be enough for the Woodchucks' bullpen to close out the game. Starting in the 6th inning, the relief pitching of Parker Dunshee, Tim McElroy, and Austin Tribby pitched four scoreless innings. The game ended with the bases loaded for Kenosha, as Tribby got Alex Dunlap to fly out to centerfield to secure the victory.

The Woodchucks and Kingfish are in a battle for the second playoff spot in the South Division of the Northwoods League. The Woodchucks now hold a one game advantage over the Kingfish, which should be an entertaining final week of the regular season.

The 'Chucks and Kingfish will finish their two-game series Sunday night at Athletic Park. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 p.m.
