SHAWANO COUNTY (WAOW) -- It was right out of an action movie. Police say a man stole two semi-trucks in Shawano County and crashed one into a patrol car following a high speed chase. He then got away on foot.
Investigators say Calvin Ossmann is the suspect, and they don't know where he is so now, the Shawano County Sheriff's Department is on the lookout for the serial semi-truck thief.
"Apparently he was mad at some people at a residence and rammed some cars," said Randall Wright, Shawano County Sheriff. "[He] took that first semi and ended up in a crash."
That was Friday night. Police say the 26-year-old Ossmann allegedly took a different semi-truck Saturday.
Sunday afternoon, it was spotted.
"A state trooper noticed the vehicle and then one of our lieutenants from the sheriff's office also fell in behind the vehicle," Wright said.
What authorities say happened next could have been straight from a movie.
"[He] went through several yards and went through different stop signs at high rates of speed," said Wright.
They ended up in a cornfield in the Town of Belle Plaine.
"When the squad cars pulled up and tried to contain it, that was when the driver put it into reverse and backed up into one of the Shawano County Sheriff's squads," Wright said.
Police say Ossmann's truck then hit a tree, and he escaped on foot. Officers at the scene didn't notice him leave the truck.
The squad car that was hit was towed later Sunday night.
"Front end damage, probably $3500, $4,000, something like that," said Mark Hagen, the service manager at Shawano Auto Sales. "Front end pretty much has to get replaced."
Police tracked Ossmann with K-9 units Sunday night but lost the trail after it rained. The search included an airplane from the Wisconsin State Patrol.
Anyone with information on Ossmann's whereabouts is asked to contact the Shawano County Sheriff's Department.
