Golfers dress festive for Aspirus Women's Golf Classic

The Aspirus Women's Golf Classic is not just any regular golf outing. The Wausau Country Club was filled with cooky costumes and golf carts decked out to the nines.

"Each year teams develop their own theme, whether it comes from the costumes that they're wearing to the cart designs," said Jennifer Mulder, the co-chair of the golf outing. "Each team really has a lot of fun. It's again, designed to be a light-hearted event, a great cause, and have some fun for an afternoon or a morning of golf."

Some golfers go all out, planning their cart designs months in advance.

"We're Gilligan's Island this year," said Tammy Guite, a sponsor at the event. "We brought up a picture of the S.S. Minnow on the Internet, and then we look for any details we can pull out on to the cart."

Others go for a simpler design.

"There's no big story, but Todd looks great in his outfit, so he's getting all the attention today!" said Holly Kohl, a teammate of the Wipfli.

Dressing up as Dr. Suess characters, pink ladies from Grease, and Greeks gods, the money raised goes to a good cause.

"We'll be purchasing books as part of a program," said Mulder. "That will give books to the doctor's office, and the doctor's office will write a prescription, and reach out to the parent to encourage reading."

"I think providing books to children that can really use them is going to be a great benefit to our community," said Guite.

"It's always a fun event and, again, it just always supports a great cause," said Kohl. "There's a lot of creativity out there and everybody's got some different idea. It's fun to come and watch."
