Countdown to Kickoff: Amherst Falcons

AMHERST, Wis. (WAOW) -- Amherst head football coach Mark Lusic will be the first to tell you, August 22nd can't come soon enough.

"It's been a long offseason," Lusic told Newsline 9.

Amherst is just two years removed from a perfect season, culminating in a WIAA state championship.

In fact, the Falcons boast a 34-4 record since 2011, but after a level 4 loss in last year's playoffs, they're looking to get back into top form.

"The kids have spent some time in the weight room, and it's time to go," Lusic said. "so far, so good. It's a little rusty but the kids are coming out with a lot of energy right now, which is nice to see."

The Falcons lost just two games last year, and are an early favorite in the Central Wisconsin - Eight conference.

"IT's an early start but so far I'm feeling good," senior Andrew Trzebiatowski said. "Summer camp, we had really good morale throughout, and I'm feeling good about it."

The high school football season begins Friday, August 22.
