KRONENWETTER (WAOW) – A beer can that was tossed from a vehicle led to a police chase at high speeds and ended with the driver crashing into an embankment and fleeing on foot across Interstate 39, Kronenwetter Police Chief D.L. Joling said Friday.
The driver, 22-year-old Jamie Olson of Rosholt, was apprehended a short time later and arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, reckless driving and fleeing an officer, Joling said in a statement.
The incident began Thursday afternoon on County Highways X and XX, and the police chase included the suspect vehicle passing several other cars “at a high rate of speed,” Joling said.
The chase began after an officer saw a passenger throw a beer can out the window of the vehicle, Joling said.
The passenger, a 24-year-old Kronenwetter man, was cited for failing to wear a seat belt, the police chief said
