Countdown to Kickoff: D.C. Everest Evergreens

The high school football regular season begins two weeks from Friday and our Countdown to Kickoff continues with D.C. Everest.

The Evergreens are striving to "Be Relentless" this fall. Fourth year head coach Luke Coenen and his 2013 team managed to make the playoffs after overcoming a 1-3 start.

Everest will have a much younger team this season after losing big names like Wyatt Brown and Mitchell Boals. Senior Darren Sanchez will lead the Evergreen's offense under center. Throughout the fall, Coenen and company plan to stick to the phrase "Be Relentless."

"I guess I'd say Coach Coenen started it in the offseason," said Sanchez. "He's just trying to get us to work as hard as we can everyday, in the weight room, being dedicated. Even if we make a mistake, we've just got to fix it and move on. "

"We felt that was something that we really needed to focus on," said Coenen. "Through teamwork and being relentless, and keep on doing what their responsibilities are no matter what happens. (We want to) have a short memory and move on, and learn from our mistakes."
