PLOVER (WAOW) -- A 33-year-old man is in the hospital after an altercation with a Plover police officer Friday night, according to the Plover police chief.
Plover police officials say Brett Lieberman of Manawa was pulled over at about 7 p.m. for erratic driving on Post Road near Maple Drive in Plover. After what eyewitnesses call "a heck of a struggle," the officer fired his gun.
Mitchell Witucki says he saw the altercation that lasted about ten to fifteen seconds.
"[The officer] flipped the guy over, and he put another clip in just to make sure," Witucki said. "I'm pretty sure he cuffed him."
Post Road near US 51/54 was closed down and a heavy police presence arrived to investigate. Wisconsin State Patrol officials tell Newsline 9 the road opened up again around 5 a.m. Saturday morning.
The officer was not injured and has been put on administrative leave, which is standard for investigations like this.
The Plover Police Department has requested the Wisconsin Department of Justice's Division of Criminal Investigation continue the investigation.
