According to Lt. Ryan Weber, during the month of July, 2014, there have been reported thefts of copper wire and bus bars from two cellular towers located within Marathon County. In one incident, 8 ground wire bars that were 12 inches long, 4 inches wide and ¼ inch thick were taken from a cellular tower located in the Township of Elderon. In another incident that occurred in the Township of Halsey, a 6 foot in length 1/0 gauge copper wire, two sections of 6-gauge copper wire, approximately 10 feet in length and one, 6 foot in length, 6 gauge copper wire were taken from another cellular tower. It appears that these two incidents could be related to other thefts of copper wire from cellular towers that occurred in Stevens Point, Mosinee, Wausau, and Rhinelander.
