MARSHFIELD (WAOW) – A 34-year-old Marshfield man was found dead in his home and police found evidence of huffing inhalants, Lt. Darren Larson said Monday.
Robert Grupstra was found dead about 6 a.m. Friday morning when a friend became concerned he didn't show up for work, Larson said.
“What we found at the scene suggests the use of huffing devices,” Larson said.
Inhalant abuse – commonly called huffing – involves intentionally breathing chemicals to obtain a high a euphoric effect. Experts say a wide variety of substances, including many common household products, are abused by inhalers.
Wood County Deputy Coroner Charles Evans said an autopsy was performed on Grupstra but the results were not available Monday.
His death is not considered suspicious or a suicide, Evans said. “I wouldn't call it accidental either. I suspect it was huffing.”
