Countdown to Kickoff: SPASH Panthers

Posted:
STEVENS POINT (WAOW) - High school football teams have entered the second week of preseason practice, preparing for week one of the regular season. Until then, Newsline 9 is touring the area for our Countdown to Kickoff team previews and we continue that with the SPASH Panthers.

Head coach Pete McAdams says his team lost a lot of talent and experience to graduation and this year's Panthers plan to overcome those losses with hard work and good team chemistry.

SPASH has plenty of great potential at the skill positions but the team is mostly thrilled about the experience it does have coming back on the offensive line.

"We're returning four out of five of our front line starters and we're excited about that," said McAdams. "I think as a player in the backfield, you've got to be really looking forward to that when you have your front line coming back."

"I think our strength could really be our passing game," said returning senior right tackle Brett Nelson. "I think our guys are really starting to understand what to do on certain protections and it'll be a lot easier now that we have more experience."

The Panthers currently have a quarterback battle brewing between juniors Sam Hauser and Keith Hoffman. SPASH will have starting running back Ethan Clark returning in the backfield. McAdams says he's looking forward to seeing big things out of junior wide receiver Victor Kizewski. Defensively, the Panthers have strong leaders returning in Andrew Ruzek and Noel Winch.

SPASH will open the season on the road against D.C. Everest at Stiehm Stadium.
