Wausau woman mails narcotic to jail inmate

MADISON (WAOW) – A federal judge has sentenced a Wausau woman to two years of probation for mailing a narcotic to her boyfriend in the Dane County Jail, U.S. Attorney John Vaudreuil said Tuesday.

Jennifer Schoenfeldt, 32, placed suboxone strips behind the postage stamp on a letter she mailed to her boyfriend in February, Vaudreuil said. Deputies discovered the strips when sorting the mail.

The boyfriend's jail cell was later searched and three other envelops that appeared to be from Schoenfeldt were found, each with suboxone strips under the stamps, he said.

Suboxone is often used to treat narcotic addiction.

Schoenfeldt pleaded guilty to the charge in May, the prosecutor said.
