Nekoosa man sentenced in FBI incident

Posted:
MADISON (WAOW) – A federal judge has placed a Nekoosa man on two years of probation for writing on an FBI website that a friend was entering the Navy to steal blueprints of nuclear reactors, U.S. Attorney John Vaudreuil said Tuesday.

In May, Travis Billman was convicted of making false statements to the federal government after he pleaded guilty to the charge, Vaudreuil said.

Billman told investigators in August 2012 that he made the complaint to the FBI website and it was false, the prosecutor said.

Billman told investigators that he may have been sleepwalking at the time he submitted the complaint, but the FBI determined that minutes before the email was sent, Billman downloaded an application that was designed to mask his computer's address, Vaudreuil said.
