Wood Co. man dies of "positional asphyxiation"

PORT EDWARDS (WAOW) – Some teenagers found the body of a 33-year-old Wood County man along a trail near Port Edwards, the Wood County Sheriff's Department said.

The coroner ruled the death accidental due to “positional asphyxiation,” Lt. Quentin Ellis said. Alcohol may have been a factor, he said.

No foul play was suspected, Ellis said.

The body was found about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Highway AA and Grunewald Lane in the Town of Port Edwards, the lieutenant said.

The man, whose name was not released, may have been dead for up to two days, Ellis said.
