Kayakers flip and tumble at Midwest Championships in Wausau
WAUSAU (WAOW) -- Kayakers conquered the rapids of the Wisconsin River Saturday.
Boaters competed in the Midwest Freestyle Kayak Championships.
They each had one minute to do as many tricks as they could.
Organizers say it's a thrill for the 85 competitors to ride in these rapids that are well-known all over the country.
"The cool thing is there's not too many opportunities out there to get in the water and play when it's swift water like this so this is a great area to do this," said Margie Wenzel, the event's operations coordinator. "For spectators, it's always about the carnage. People love it when somebody flips over."
The competition continues Sunday with the boater-cross races and the team freestyle events.
