"New" SentryWorld has auction for first golfers

STEVENS POINT (WAOW) - An online auction started Tuesday to determine the first 72 golfers who get to tee off at the newly renovated SentryWorld.

The Golf United! fundraiser will benefit the Portage County United Way. The minimum bid for each of 18 foursomes for the first rounds on the redesigned course is $500, authorities said.

"Sentry donated 18 holes of golf for 72 golfers to be the first to play this premiere course that has been redesigned," said John Jury, the co-chair for this year's United Way campaign.

Over the past 20 months, the course and SentryWorld complex, which are owned by Sentry Insurance, have undergone major renovations.

"It is going to be a totally different experience for people. The building has been transformed and the course has been transformed. They will get a similar flair in some ways but in others so very different," said SentryWorld General Manager Mike James.

One thing that remains on the course is the signature flower hole.

Online bidding for the fundraiser runs through September 12. For more information click here: www.biddingowl.com/golfunited
