Coal truck spills and blocks Wood County highway

PORT EDWARDS (WAOW) – A semi-truck loaded with tons of coal tipped over Wednesday, spilling the coal into the ditch and blocking state Highway 54 for several hours, authorities said.

No one was hurt in the crash about five miles west of Port Edwards, said Sgt. Matt Susa of the Wood County Sheriff's Department.

The truck was eastbound on Highway 54 about 7 a.m. near some curves when it went off the shoulder, hit some gravel and overturned, Susa said.

The road was expected to reopen by 1 p.m. after the mess was cleaned up, he said.
