3 finalists picked for Stevens Point fire chief

STEVENS POINT (WAOW) – Three finalists have been picked to become the next Stevens Point fire chief, and one is the department's current interim chief.

The Stevens Point Police and Fire Commission narrowed 38 applicants to three finalists on Wednesday, President Dave Schleihs said.

They are:

--Robert Finn, currently Stevens Point's interim fire chief. He has been assistant fire chief since 2007. He spent 27 years at the Westchester, Ill., Fire Department before that.

--Randy Banker, of Batavia, Ill., deputy chief of the fire department there. He has 30 years of firefighting experience.

--Kraig Biefeld, assistant fire chief in Watertown for the past six years. He also was formerly an interim fire chief there.

The process of interviewing the finalists will be determined by mid-September, and will include city officials and community members, Schleihs said.

Schleihs said he was optimistic a new fire chief will be named by late September.

Former Fire Chief Tracey Kujawa moved to the Wausau Fire Department in early May,

The new fire chief will earn between $85,600 and $110,100, according to a listing for the opening on the city's web site.
