Local library hosts end of summer party

WAUSAU (WAOW) - An area library sent off summer with some fun Wednesday.

The Marathon County Public Library in Wausau held a party for the end of this year's summer library program.

Children celebrated by creating crafts such as alien space ships and mermaids.

Library leaders say it's important for students to keep reading through the summer months and to recognize all their hard work.

"One of the parents said to me, 'Oh you guys are going to be really tired tonight.' But it's going to be a great tired because we know that the kids have been reading this summer, we know how important it is throughout the whole school year and throughout the summer for kids." said children's librarian Sharyn Heili.

At the party, children turned in their summer reading logs.

The readers received a free book bag at the beginning of the program and Wednesday got to pick out a free book to keep.
