MERRILL (WAOW) -
The race for governor of Wisconsin is heating up.
It appears Governor Scott Walker has made a change in the way he refers to his democratic challenger Mary Burke. Walker had previously addressed her as Trek Executive. But now, it's Madison School Board Member Mary Burke.
He has put the title on a number of different releases from his office. During the governor's stop in Merrill Thursday, Newsline 9 asked him if it's an appropriate title.
"It's her title,” said Governor Walker. “I mean you say i'm called Governor Scott Walker, she's the school board member not from Merrill, not from Milwaukee she's from Madison."
"Whether he refers to her as a former Trek Bike executive, former Secretary of Commerce, or a school board member, we'll take all of it because that diversity of experience is what makes Mary uniquely suited for this job at this time," said Joe Zepecki, Burke's communications director.
Both candidates have told Newsline 9 that north central Wisconsin will be an important area as they continuing campaigning leading up to the November election.
