Man's Packers dream is about to come true

WAUSAU (WAOW) - Some people have a bucket list of things they want to accomplish in their life. For one Wausau man, one of his dreams on his list is becoming a reality.

When Griff Matthews fell in love with his wife, he also fell in love with something else.

"She converted me to Packerism," said Matt

He's cheered on the green and gold ever since. From the frozen tundra, to sharing a last name with his favorite player.

"Just the atmosphere of Lambeau Field,” said Matthews. “I consider it temple Lambeau."

He's in Mount View Care Center in Wausau dealing with some health issues. One day, when a volunteer and Matthews started talking about their bucket lists, he brought up his green and gold dream.

"I would love to see one Packers game at Lambeau Field," said Matthews.

So with the help of volunteers, Matthews dream will come true.

"They decided to share one of their preseason day game tickets for Griff and his wife to go to the Packer game," said Mary Ventzke, the volunteer coordinator.

He's off to the game Thursday against the Kansas City Chiefs. The center got a van and a group of volunteers to help Matthews cheer on his favorite team.

"Disbelief and excitement simultaneously,” said Matthews.

He can't thank the center's volunteers enough.

"It's really grateful to the volunteers for being able to cross one thing off my bucket list," said Matthews.

It's certainly made him very popular, but he says he just can't wait for game day to make his bucket list a little smaller.

Matthews says he has a number of other things on his bucket list including going to a World Series or a Super Bowl. He said of course, it would be even better if the Packers were in the game.
